Bond withdrawal gives Pakistan edge in second cricket test

Outwardly at least Pakistan are concealing their glee at Shane Bond's injury-forced absence from the Black Caps lineup for the second test due to start at midday at the Basin Reserve.

Bond's eight wickets in Dunedin were largely instrumental in their first test win, but a stomach muscle injury has ruled him out of the rest of the series.

Pakistan's captain Mohammed Yousuf singled out Bond as one of the best fast bowlers he's faced, due to his line and sheer speed.

But coach Intikhab Alam is reluctant to say how much Bond's absence means to his side.

Wellington's spell of wet weather since Monday is expected to clear later this morning.
