Rooney ask fans not to boo

7:16 pm on 2 March 2010

The Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is urging England football supporters, not to boo John Terry in Thurday's friendly against Egypt at Wembley.

The match is England's first since allegations were made that Chelsea captain Terry had an affair with the ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge, a former team-mate, who now plays for Manchester City.

Bridge last week said he no longer wished to play for England because his position in the squad had become untenable and potentially divisive.

Rooney wants fans to show support for Terry, who was sacked as England captain last month, after allegations of an extra-marital affair.
