The leading Spanish road cyclist Alejandro Valverde has lost his appeal against a two-year suspension for doping.
The CAS has upheld the decision of Italy's National Olympic Committee suspending Valverde for two years from all sports events organised on Italian soil, so the suspension will remain in place until May 2011.
A blood sample taken from the rider on the 2008 Tour de France when it passed through Italy in 2008 matched DNA from a blood bag seized during Spain's 'Operation Puerto' doping scandal that erupted in May 2006.
