Giants beat Manawatu in NBL

Tall Black Phill Jones scored 34 points to help the Nelson Giants to a 106-86 win over Manawatu in the National Basketball League.

The win puts the Giants to second place with eight wins and two losses, while the Jets remain winless after 9 matches which puts them last equal with Otago.

Giants Tony Rampton did not play due to sickness, so Mika Vukona stepped up on the board grabbing 18 rebounds and also dishing 7 assists.

The first quarter was high scoring but close, Jets only down by three. The Giants then led by 10 at the half thanks to Michael Harrison who scored 22 of his 29

in the first half.

The third quarter the Giants put on a clinic and restricting the Jets to score only 12 in the quarter, leading by 23 heading into the fourth. Jones scoring 14 in the quarter.

The Jets were not helped with the ejection of Coach Ryan Weisenberg who was tossed out for arguing over a non call.
