Taylor to captain Black Caps

Ross Taylor will captain the New Zealand cricket side to play the tri-nations one day series in Sri Lanka next month.

Dan Vettori won't tour because it coincides with the birth of his second child, while coach Mark Greatbatch says Brendon McCullum needs some time to recondition and is also expecting a child at that time.

Kyle Mills will be the vice captain while all-rounder Grant Elliott and batsman Jesse Ryder return to the side after injury.

Kane Williamson gets his first tour with the Black Caps based on his excellent domestic first class one-day form.

Jeetan Patel also returns to the side as a replacement for Dan Vettori.

And Brendon McCullum's decided to give up wicketkeeping in Test matches for the Black Caps to become a specialist batsman - but the 28-year-old will continue to don the gloves for Twenty20 and one day matches in an attempt to prolong his international career.
