Ma's Nonu and Conrad Smith back in All Black midfield

Three of the four changes to the All Black starting 15 for the first Tri Nations rugby test against South Africa in Auckland on Saturday night have meant the return of experienced backs Ma's Monu, Conrad Smith and Joe Rokocoko.

Head coach Graham Henry says because they're playing the Tri Nations champions it's important to start with experienced players and let them prove they're good enough to be there.

Henry says he's sure the proven test performers will be up to it while younger players such as Israel Dagg and Rene Ranger will get their chance in time.

Nonu and Conrad Smith are re-united in the midfield with Rokocoko returning to the left wing and Owen Franks to loosehead prop.

Nonu's back from a knee injury while Smith missed the second test win over Wales in Hamilton with an eye injury and Franks and Rokocoko weren't selected.
