Campbell 12th equal after day one in Germany

6:02 am on 12 September 2008

Michael Campbell is tied for 12th place after an opening round of 71, one under par on the first day of the Mercedes Benz golf championship in Cologne, Germany.

Campbell did well to finish under par after being two over the card after 10 holes, and he said after his round he was running close to empty having played five tournaments in the last six weeks, and his fourth in succession since last month's USPA championship.

He's 5 strokes behind the leading pair, the current New Zealand Open champion Richard Finch of England, and the Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin who won his maiden title in Switzerland last weekend.

The elite 78-player event has no cut which means Campbell will have made the cut in his last six tournaments.
