McLaren lose Belgian Grand Prix appeal

6:58 pm on 26 September 2008

The McLaren formula one motor racing team have been unsuccessful with their appeal to have Lewis Hamilton reinstated as winner of the Belgian Grand Prix earlier this month.

Hamilton presented a spirited defence of his actions before an FIA tribunal in Paris, saying that he cut a chicane in the final stages of the Belgian race to avoid a collision with Kimi Raikkonen.

But the tribinal supported the raceday decision that Hamilton had gained an unfair advantage.

Confirmation of Hamilton's third place and Felipe Massa's promotion to first means Hamilton's lead over the Ferrari driver remains just one point with four rounds remaining in the world championship.

The next race is a night extravaganza in Singapore on.
