The World Cup hosts South Africa beat a second string Ghana side 2-1 in Bloemfontein to record a third successive win in their bid at boosting morale after elimination from the 2010 African Nations Cup qualifiers.

The match was part of an accelerated campaign of preparatory matches for the 2010 World Cup hosts but Ghana arrived with a squad of reserve players for the match, much to the chagrin of the hosts.

South Africa dropped to 85th in the latest world rankings but have since beaten Malawi, Equatorial Guinea and now Ghana.
