Maurie Fa'asavalu and Jon Wilkin have both been ruled out of England's final Rugby League World Cup group match against New Zealand in Newcastle on Saturday because of injury.
St Helens prop Fa'asavalu has a suspected broken hand and is awaiting scan results to see if he will miss the rest of the tournament.
Fellow St Helens forward Wilkin has facial bruising but should be fit for the semi-final.
However, scrum-half Rob Burrow and winger Lee Smith are set to return, with Burrow recovering from an eye injury while Smith returns from his foot complaint.
Saturday's match is almost certainly a dress rehearsal for the first semi-final in Brisbane next weekend - unless Papua New Guinea spring a surprise and defeat defending champions Australia on Sunday.
