Cooper's mentor backs rugby

Quade Cooper's mentor, the Wallabies great Tim Horan, is convinced the gifted playmaker will stick with rugby to show his class at next year's World Cup.

Despite massive interest from the NRL, Horan has indicated Cooper is poised to stay in the 15-man code.

Horan is a consultant to Queensland rugby and he's acted as Cooper's mentor for the past three seasons.

The Queensland and Wallabies first five didn't re-sign with the Australian Rugby Union before the Wallabies flew to South Africa, but it's understood Cooper and his manager are closer to agreeing to a new deal.

The ARU boss John O'Neill is travelling with the Wallabies on their Tri-Nations trip to South Africa.
