Fifteen year old Canterbury swimmer Sophia Batchelor has broken off one of the sport's oldest age group records on the second day of finals at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii.

Batchelor clocked 57.25 seconds as she finished fourth in the 'B' Final of the 100 metres freestyle, nearly 4/10ths of a second off the record held by four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Rebecca Perrot, set 34 years ago.
