The Tall Blacks and Breakers shooting guard Kirk Penney is to trial with the NBA basketball team the San Antonio Spurs.
Penney has told the Radio Network that the trial came about following his form at the recent world championships in Turkey where he finished with the second highest scoring average.
Penney's only previous NBA experience were short stints with the Miami Heat in 2003 and the Los Angeles Clippers in 2004.
29-year-old Penney is contracted with the Breakers for the next NBL season, but has an out clause if he gets a big team offer.
