Pakistan are 134 for two at stumps on day two of the second cricket Test against New Zealand in Wellington, trailing their hosts by 222 runs at the Basin Reserve.

The tourists bowled the Black Caps out for 356 then lost a controversial early wicket, the opener Mohammad Hafeez going in the second over.

Hafeez was given out caught behind for one to wicketkeeper Reece Young off Tim Southee's bowling, despite replays showing Hafeez didn't connect with the bat.

But Pakistan recovered well before losing their second wicket on the last ball before the close of play.

Taufeeq Umar was snared by Daniel Vettori to end a good day for the New Zealand captain, Vettori also reaching his sixth Test century - the all-rounder was running out of partners as the tail end fell around him but he made 110 before holing out to Misbah-ul-Haq off the bowling of Abdur Rehman.

Vettori's was the last wicket to fall. Chris Martin was stranded not out for four at the other end.

Tim Southee went for just one run after lunch when he nicked one behind, and another bowler Brent Arnel didn't last long, out lbw also for a solitary run.

The Black Caps resumed on 246 for six with Vettori on 38 and Reece Young 28 - Young made his debut Test half century before he was removed for 57.
