Roar beat Heart, do Phoenix a favour

7:13 am on 30 January 2011

Brisbane Roar have broken the record for the longest unbeaten streak in Australian domestic football and done the Wellington Phoenix a favour, beating Melbourne Heart 2-1 at Skilled Park.

The Roar's win stretches their remarkable undefeated run to 23 matches and keeps the Phoenix within a point of the sixth-placed Heart on the A-League table, still in range of a playoff place with just three regular season games remaining.

This afternoon's home fixture in Wellington looms as a must-win for the Phoenix, with visitors Newcastle just a point behind in the race for the last playoff place with just three regular season games remaining.

Brisbane must wait to claim the Premiers Plate after Central Coast beat Adelaide United, also 2-1, at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Sydney FC won away at Perth, the 2-0 victory keeping them clear of the Glory and well away from the bottom-placed North Queensland Fury.
