Cairns confident ahead of Breakers finals series

The New Zealand Breakers may have more big game experience but Cairns coach Aaron Fearne believes a physical approach may put them off their stride, in tonight's opening game of the Australian National Basketball final series in Auckland.

Fearne says Cairns can't match the international experience of the likes of Kirk Penney, CJ Bruton, Dillon Boucher or Mika Vukona but believes a strong defensive effort can negate that.

The two sides are poles apart in style with the Breakers the strongest offensive team in the competition while Cairns hold opponents to low scores.

Cairns ended Townsville's 12-game unbeaten home streak to reach the grand final.

The Breakers will have Gary Wilkinson after the forward escaped suspension, and veteran Dillon Boucher says they'll need all the firepower they can get to combat a Taipans side stacked with talent.

Wilkinson was fined for part in an on-court incident during game three of the semi-final series against Perth but which ended with the Wildcats Andre Brown's ejection from the game for striking the Breakers' forward Mika Vukona.

However the big American escaped any harsher punishment and Boucher says the Breakers will need to come out all guns blazing in Auckland.
