Wozniacki bombs out of French Open

The women's tennis world number one Caroline Wozniacki suffered another grand slam nightmare as she was comprehensively beaten 6-1 6-3 by Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, dropping out of the French Open in the third round.

The Dane, top seed at the claycourt tournament, has yet to win a grand slam title and never looked like ending the statistic against the 28th seed.

Hantuchova hit 26 winners compared to just eight by Wozniacki, who has constantly faced questions about whether she deserves to be the top-ranked player in the world without shining in the majors.

The 20-year-old had a mini-revival midway through the second set but her game fell apart again and she stomped off court immediately as Hantuchova cracked the broadest of smiles.

Second seed Kim Clijsters bowed out in the second round on Friday after losing to little-known Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, leaving the women's draw even more wide open than it was at the start and further damaging the reputation of the tour.

Hantuchova next meets Russia's 2009 winner Svetlana Kuznetsova in the fourth round.
