No tinkering with Formula One cars say FIA

Formula One teams will no longer be able to change or tinker with their engines in between the start of qualifying and the Grand Prix itself, under a new rule issued by motorsports' governing body the FIA.

A sent to the teams says while teams aren't strictly breaking any rules by making alterations to their engines the FIA believes it goes against the spirit of the rules whereby cars should be raced exactly as they qualified.

The FIA says after analysing the statistics from the first seven Grand Prix of they year, they've noticed astonishing differences in the engine performances of certain cars and it's become obvious that some engine and control systems are routinely changed post-qualifying.

It says from now on, when a car first leaves the pits during qualifying until the start of the race, no changes to the set-up of any electronic control unit may take place.

The next race on the calendar is Monday's European Grand Prix in Spain.
