Blues into Super Rugby semis

9:48 am on 26 June 2011

The Blues are through to the Super Rugby semi-finals thanks to a 26-13 win over the New South Wales Waratahs in the first elimination qualifier at Auckland's Eden Park.

But it looks as if they'll be without their All Black lock Anthony Boric, who limped off late in the game with a foot injury and coach Pat Lam's resigned to being without him next weekend.

The Waratahs scored the first try and last tries but after a strong start they conceded a smart try left- wing Lachie Munro, who also kicked two penalties to help the Blues to a 13-8 half-time lead.

The Blues dominated the second spell in front of a disappointing crowd of 16,100 and finally outflanked the Waratahs defence when lock Ali Williams crossed for their second try with about 16 minutes to go to to make sure of the win before Luke McAlister added a late long range penalty.

The Blues will play the Queensland Reds in Brisbane after the Crusaders beat South Africa's Sharks in Nelson on Saturday night. The Crusaders fly to Cape Town to play the Stormers.
