Netball New Zealand has confirmed the appointment of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic coach Noeline Taurua as the Silver Ferns assistant coach to support head coach Ruth Aitken in the upcoming series against England and Australia.

The outgoing assistant coach Wai Taumanu's contract ended this month and she's taken leave from Silver Ferns duties to concentrate on her application for the Silver Ferns head coaching role which becomes available when Aitken steps down at the end of the year.

Netball New Zealand High Performance Director Tracey Fear says Taurua's appointment provides a great opportunity for one of the leading franchise coaches to gain international coaching experience.

Aitken says she is excited to have Taurua as assistant coach for the five test matches.

Taurua will also have the opportunity to be involved in the upcoming Silver Ferns squad camp which starts on September 6.
