Emotions flow for Adams

7:51 am on 30 August 2011

The New Zealand shot puter Valerie Adams was full of emotion after wrapping up a third World Championship title with a record equalling throw in South Korea last night.

Adams eventually took the lead with her third throw, but with her 6th and final throw and the gold medal already hers, she recorded a championship record equalling distance of 21.24 metres, smashing her personal best and New Zealand Record.

Straight afterwards Adams says she was mad and happy, adding she'd made so many sacrifices and had been away from home for so long.

In regards to her last throw the 26-year-old says she knew she had 21 metres in her and had to get it out.... she says she simply smashed it out.

She becomes only the fifth woman to win three world championship titles.
