Team New Zealand's had an average start to the Extreme Sailing Series regatta in Italy - the series leaders are fourth at the end of day one.
Skipper Adam Beashel and his crew of Richard Meacham, Jeremy Lomas and Rob Waddell battled variable conditions off Trapani, Sicily to record a ninth, sixth, third, third and fifth placings.

The New Zealand team's performance improved throughout the day as they adapted to the very light breeze which averaged only five knots, and at times dropped away to almost nothing.
Even lighter conditions are forecast for tomorrow's racing.
