The NZ mens hockey team was given a cheap but valuable lesson by Spain in last night's second and final warmup match for the Champions Trophy tournament at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium.
The Black Sticks were 2-nil up after only 10 mintes with Ryan Archibald scoring from penalty corner rebounds, but the Spaniards capitalised on turnovers to lead 3-2 at halftime, and went on to win 4-3.
New Zealand have drawn the Olympic champions Germany first up in the tournament proper on Saturday.
