Open champion sacks caddie

The Northern Ireland golfer Darren Clarke has sacked the caddie who helped him win his first major championship, last year's British Open.

The decision was made after Clarke missed the cut last weekend at the Abu Dhabi championship, and his management team says the split with caddie John Mulrooney was amicable.

Mulrooney took over as Clarke's fulltime caddie only two months before his Open championshp win last July.

43-year-old Clarke's best result since then was a 20th placing at the Volvo champions tournament in South Africa two weeks ago.
