Ryder returns to Blackcaps squad

The Wellington batsman Jessie Ryder returns to the New Zealand cricket squad for the third and final match of the Twenty20 series against South Africa at Eden Park on Wednesday night.

The left-hander hasn't played for New Zealand since the test win over Australia in Hobart in December, he suffered a torn calf muscle just after Christmas.

Ryder replaces Andrew Ellis who has asked to return to Christchurch to be with family for the anniversary of the Canterbury earthquake.

National Selection Manager Kim Littlejohn says they're pleased with the progress Ryder has made since returning from injury and with Ellis not available for the final match they felt it was a good opportunity to bring him back into the mix.

The squad for the first two One Day Internationals against South Africa will be announced this afternoon.
