Police interviewing man after woman stabbed

3:01 pm on 14 September 2008

Police are speaking to a 36-year old man following the stabbing of a woman in Avondale early on Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the West Auckland address just before 3am.

A 23-year-old woman was taken to Auckland Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say she had successful surgery on Sunday.

They say her injuries are no longer life threatening and the woman is now in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Scott says the people involved in the incident appear to know each other.

He says several people from the house where the attack happened have been spoken to, and a man is helping them with their inquiries.
