Arrest after shots fired in Taranaki property dispute

7:35 am on 19 September 2008

Armed police have arrested a man in north Taranaki after shots were fired during a property dispute.

Members of the armed offenders squad descended on a farming community at Uruti Valley, 45 kilometres northeast of New Plymouth, on Wednesday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward said the dispute was apparently over vehicle access between two properties and had been simmering for some time.

The arrested man was released on bail on Tuesday after being charged with threatening behaviour.

Mr Coward says the man is accused of firing shots at a neighbour's house on Wednesday morning.

It is not yet clear what sort of weapon was used, but no one was hurt.
