More Govt funding wanted for after-hours GPs

GPs and nurses say extra Government funding is needed to help cut the cost of seeing a doctor.

The Independent Practitioners Association has issued a list of its priorities for the next Government: urgent new funding for after-hours services is top of the list.

The association says Ministry of Health figures show the cost of seeing a doctor after-hours is more than $45 for children and higher than $65 for adults in many regions.

The association says it also wants better training for doctors and nurses and the establishment of an advisory board to help rebuild its relationship with the Minister of Health.
