A new wool company set up by a farmer co-operative and PGG Wrightson has acquired the Fernmark brand and associated marketing and technical advice services set up by the former Wool Board.

Wool Partners International has bought the Wools of New Zealand group of companies from the Wool Research Organisation.

Added to the wool buying and exporting functions already in place, chair Theresa Gattung says it will complete the integrated farm-to-market capability that it's aiming for.

Meat & Wool New Zealand says transferring it to a commercial operation part-owned by New Zealand wool growers is the appropriate place for it.

Although farmers no longer contribute funding for strong wool promotion, chairman Mike Petersen says Wools of New Zealand and the Fernmark brand have remained active.
