At least one person has been killed and more than 35 wounded after three bombs exploded in a town in northeast India.

Police suspect Muslim groups, based in neighbouring Bangladesh, were behind the blasts in Agartala, the capital of Tripura state on Wednesday.

Two of the explosions took place in markets, while the third was at a bus stand, in quick succession during the evening rush-hour.

There have been a wave of bomb attacks in India in recent months, killing more than 125 people.

Northeast India is home to more than 200 tribes and has been racked by separatist revolts since India gained independence from Britain in 1947.
