Wellington buses halt for stopwork meeting on Tuesday

9:59 pm on 6 October 2008

Go Wellington buses will be off the road for a few hours on Tuesday as drivers discuss and vote on a new pay offer.

The employer and the drivers' unions emerged from mediation talks last Thursday after three months of negotiations, strike action and a lockout.

Drivers are being offered a 7.5% pay increase, and a $300 lump-sum payment.

Although the deal falls short of the 8% to 12% they had sought, drivers will be encouraged by their delegates to accept the offer at a meeting on Tuesday.

Go Wellington's full service will stop between 9am and 3pm so drivers can attend the meeting.

All other bus services, including those run by Tranz Metro and Newlands, will operate as usual.
