Two men in Tauranga are in critical conditions after they were each stabbed a number of times.
Emergency services were called to the suburb of Gate Pa about 8.30pm on Wednesday and police say it appears an altercation took place with others who turned up.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier says the men, one of whom is thought to be in their 20s and the other in their 40s, have been taken to hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
