An Ashburton irrigation company has been ordered to pay more than $100,000 following the death of an employee.
Roderick O'Connor, who was working for KB Irrigation Limited, was killed in July when a trench collapsed on him.
Mr O'Connor was repairing an irrigation scheme at Horse Gully, near Oamaru, when a large section of a three metre trench collapsed and buried him.
KB Irrigation was prosecuted by the Department of Labour, under the Health and Safety in Employment Act for failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of an employee.
The company has to pay a fine of $20,000 and $83,000 in reparations.
