Leader says Labour will develop new policies

9:37 pm on 13 November 2008

The Labour Party's new leader, Phil Goff, says the party is entering into a time of reflection which it will use to develop new policies.

Mr Goff was elected unopposed as leader and Annette King as deputy leader this week, to replace Helen Clark and Michael Cullen.

Mr Goff says after losing the election, Labour has an obligation to learn from its mistakes and understand where it became disconnected from voters.

However, he says instead of spending its time looking backwards, the party will spend the coming months talking to party members and people in the electorate.

Mr Goff says Labour is proud of its track record, but there were things it could have done better.
