Two members of the same family have been taken to hospital after separate accidents in Wairarapa.

The Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called when a car carrying two men crashed down a bank near Riversdale Beach, shortly after 7pm on Saturday.

The 25-year-old driver was flown to Wellington Hospital with a broken leg, after the fire service worked for more than an hour to free him from the vehicle.

His stepfather was then injured when his quad bike hit a rock.

The 50-year-old Palmerston North man had been trying to ride to the scene of his son's accident. He suffered leg and arm injuries and was taken by ambulance to Masterton Hospital.

The two men had been attending a family weekend at Riversdale Beach before the accidents.
