Jury to visit scene where toddler slain

9:33 am on 22 November 2008

The jury hearing a case about the fatal shooting of a child in Wanganui last year will visit the scene on Friday.

Six men are before the High Court in Wellington charged with the murder of Jhia Te Tua, aged two years, in a drive-by shooting on 5 May, 2007.

Several streets in the suburb of Castlecliff will be cordoned off to allow the judge and jury to take a look at the Te Tua property in Puriri Street.

Justice Gendall told the jurors on Thursday that it will give them an idea of the locality and help them to better understand the evidence that they are hearing.

The accused men can also attend, but it's understood that only one is making the journey to Wanganui.

Following the visit the jury will return to Wellington, but will not be required back in court until Tuesday, as procedural matters will be heard on Monday.
