Up to 1000 Ngai Tahu members were expected at Takahanga Marae in Kaikoura on Friday for a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the settlement of a major Treaty of Waitangi claim by the South Island tribe.

Waatea News reports King Tuheitia and a delegation from Tainui will be among the guests to mark a close working relationship between the first two major iwi to achieve settlements.

Chief negotiator Sir Tipene O'Regan will give an account of the settlement.

Ngai Tahu runanga chairman Mark Solomon says tribal equity now stands at $513 million.

Business activities have made almost $23 million to be invested in cultural, social, environmental, educational and runanga development programmes.
