Childcare groups disagree over review of regulations

Early childcare groups disagree on whether there should be a delay in the introduction of new regulations.

The Government has ordered a six-month review of regulations and criteria that were set to come into force next week.

Concerns raised previously by some in the sector include requirements to have compulsory sleep rooms and gym creches needing to have learning plans.

The Early Childhood Council, which represents independent early childhood centres, hopes the review will lead to fairer and more sensible regulations.

But, the Childcare Association, which provides teacher training, says the review is a waste of time and money.
