A man has been taken-off a fishing boat off the coast of Oamaru because of medical concerns, but is reported to be conscious and alert.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman says a rescue helicopter was dispatched at first to collect him.
However, a boat picked him up instead when it became clear his condition was not life threatening.
