The price of food has risen again, increasing 0.8% in November. The weekly shop now costs New Zealanders 10% more than it did this time last year.
Statistics New Zealand figures show groceries rose 1% in November compared to the month before, driven by strong increases in the price of yoghurt and bread.
The increase offset the fall in fruits and vegetables, which were down 0.3%, with drops in the prices of tomatoes, lettuces and broccoli.
Meat, poultry and fish prices rose 0.3%, while restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food rose 0.6%
In the year to the end of November overall food prices were up 10.3%, with groceries, fruits and vegetables, and meat, poultry and fish all recording rises.
