No plans for review of prostitution law

The Government says it has no plans to review the Prostitution Reform Act, despite the killings of three Christchurch prostitutes in as many years.

Attention is turning to how to make street prostitution safer following the killing of Mellory Manning. Her body was found in the Avon River on Friday.

A five-year review of the Act was published in May, but former Labour Party MP and one-time prostitute Georgina Beyer says the review overlooked street workers. She says another review of the Act needs to take place to try and get them off the streets.

Christchurch city councillor Sue Wells also says the law is not protecting sex workers.

A spokesperson for Justice Minister Simon Power says the Government has no plans for a review.
