An opportunity to host a round of the FINA marathon swimming World Cup in New Zealand next year may be another casualty of the recession.

Swimming New Zealand says it has not been able to secure a naming sponsor.

Chief executive Mike Byrne says costs have also risen considerably with the drop in the New Zealand dollar.

He says Swimming New Zealand needs to find about $80,000 by Wednesday night otherwise FINA will have to be advisedthe event on 28 March can not be held at Oriental Bay, Wellington.
