Stocks fell on Wall Street on Tuesday, following a sharp drop in house sales and confirmation the United States economy contracted in the third quarter, thanks to the biggest drop in consumer spending in 28 years.
Oil companies also fell, with crude prices continuing to fall as more countries move close to, or into recession.
The Dow Jones Index was down 42 points to 8478 and the Nasdaq Composite down 14 points to 1519.
