New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder will be included in the team's final one-day international against the West Indies in Napier on Tuesday.
The disgraced player was dropped from the one-dayer in Auckland on Saturday following a late-night drinking session earlier in the week.
The 24-year-old batsman missed a team meeting and was unable to train in Auckland on Thursday, following the late night in Wellington.
Team management said he had been left out of the side because of inadequate preparation.
Ryder has faced a disciplinary hearing and has been fined.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan said the lapse is disappointing.
Mr Vaughan said protocols are in place, including that players must be in groups of at least three team members when they go out.
"On this particular occasion in Wellington Jesse was out on his own with friends from outside the team, and that is a clear breach of the team protocol."
Mr Vaughan said his teammates still wanted Ryder to come to the match at Eden Park, where he would be passing out drink bottles and supporting the Black Caps.
Ryder has apologised and said he thought he had reached the point where he could control his drinking, but obviously has not.
Last year, he badly cut his hand on a toilet window in a Christchurch bar.
