Police say charges are likely to be laid against a woman who made a false firearm complaint which sparked an Armed Offenders Squad callout in Waihi.
The woman called the police on Wednesday claiming she had heard gunshots near her home.
A police cordon was put around the property with the Armed Offenders Squad and an Eagle helicopter was called to the scene.
The cordon was lifted around two hours later.
Police say people need to be aware of the consequences of making hoax calls.
