The Dutch Government has issued a warning to its citizens travelling to New Zealand advising caution.

Under the heading "Serious Crime", the Dutch government warns on its travel website that outlying camping grounds are being targeted.

It cites a rape and attack on two Dutch tourists in Tuatapere last week and a similar attack on two Dutch tourists in Paihia in 2006.

The website warns Dutch tourists not to camp in wild and remote areas.
