Bill English to visit Australia

6:29 pm on 28 January 2009

Finance Minister Bill English will visit Australia next week to discuss global financial developments and closer economic relations issues with senior politicians, central bank officials and business leaders.

Mr English says getting an Australian perspective on the unfolding international economic situation, particularly the impact of a slowdown in China and Asia, is important.

He says he'll be discussing progress toward building a single economic market and also Australia's approach to public sector performance, which is a priority for the New Zealand Government.

Meanwhile, Reserve Bank and Treasury officials are going to New York, London and Hong Kong to update investors on New Zealand's economic and fiscal outlook.
