Glitches cause delays on new toll road

7:44 pm on 28 January 2009

Technical glitches held up motorists using the new Northern Gateway toll road north of Auckland on Wednesday.

Two of the four cash payment machines were out of service, with motorists queuing for 10 to 20 minutes for the remaining two operating.

Ewart Barnsley from the New Zealand Transport Agency says unnecessary hold-ups were caused when about 2500 people used the machines. He says people can avoid the queues by paying online or calling the freephone number.

Mr Barnsley expects high use of the new road over the Waitangi Day weekend.
