The Dominion Post leads with a preview of the Prime Minister's announcement of a $1 billion plan to boost the economy and measures to ease the pain of the recession on smaller businesses. It reports Mr Key will detail business tax changes that are worth hundreds of millions of dollars to small and medium-sized businesses.
The Press
The paper warns power company customers in Canterbury and Dunedin that prices will rise 7% from 15 March. It says Meridian Energy customers are being hit with their second power price rise in six months. It reports the state-owned power generator and retailer will be lifting prices around the country by an average 6.5%.
Otago Daily Times
The ODT says the Otago Community Trust has come up short on a request from the Dunedin City Council for a multimillion-dollar grant to help build Otago Stadium, but says it is not clear whether that decision has derailed the project. The paper reports the Trust's Chairman Bill Thomson saying it could not approve the full amount because the economic downturn has significantly depleted its financial reserves.
It follows up on the court appearance of the two people arrested after an armed offenders call-out in Palmerston on Monday. The paper has a picture of one of the accused, reporting they shouted "White Power" obscenities outside the Oamaru District Court on Tuesday.
