Population increases, median age rises

New Zealand's population nudged up to 4,291,900 last year.

There was a rise of just over 39,300 people, mainly due to births outstripping deaths.

The population is continuing to age, according to the Statistics New Zealand figures

The median age is 36.4 years compared with 33.8 years recorded a decade ago.

The median age for men is now 35.5 years, while for women it is 37.3 years.
